This work is reminiscent of 19th century genre painting and almost appears like a detail from Max Liebermann’s painting »Kindermädchen und Bonnen im Tiergarten« of 1898.
In this lithograph, Käthe Kollwitz depicted a scene from everyday life that is still very common today. While two mothers are having a lively chat, their tired children, sitting and crouching next to them, remain passive. The boredom of the older girl is even more evident in the rejected etched version of this motif.
