On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, the Käthe Kollwitz Museum in Cologne has published – after extensive research work – the first Catalogue Rasionné of Käthe Kollwitz’ sculptural work. This publication has been edited by Annette Seeler.

In her three-dimensional works, the artist, famous for her expressive graphic art, puts special emphasis on addressing fundamental questions of humanity.

19 works out of a total of 43 sculptural projects have been preserved, 15 of which have been used in bronze casts. The book takes an in-depth look at their development and artistic environment as well as technical aspects of their production, which, in some cases, includes different casts. Original or pirated cast?
The publication offers readers a guideline and at the same time reveals fascinating stories behind the sculptural casting process.

The Catalogue Rasionné has been made possible thanks to the commitment of Kreissparkasse Köln as sponsor of the Käthe Kollwitz Museum in Cologne.

The book was published in March 2016 and presented within the framework of the special exhibition GUSSGESCHICHTE(N) –
The sculptural work of Käthe Kollwitz in plaster, stucco, bronze and zinc
(4 March – 5 June 2016).

The catalogue is published both as a book and an online-catalogue as the property rights of casts investigated may be subject to change.

While the permanently valid research results are presented in the book version, the online-catalogue including a locations list is available on the Internet (in German language only).
